The basics
- Hearby is an app for the Mac and iPhone. It listens to the person you are talking to and puts your next line in your ear.
- You start every session yourself. Hearby never joins a call as a bot and never listens on its own.
- It works with the earbuds you already own: AirPods, any Bluetooth earbuds or wired earphones.
It always shows when it is listening
- On iPhone, a Live Activity and the Dynamic Island say "Coach listening" the whole time, beside the system's own microphone dot.
- On the Mac, a pill in the menu bar shows a live dot, beside macOS's own microphone indicator.
- One tap copies or says a disclosure line: "Heads up, I use a coaching app that listens live and does not record."
Your audio stays on your device
- Speech is turned into text on your device by default, and the audio is not kept.
- Only the words needed to write your next line are sent to write it, and nothing is kept after the conversation.
What Hearby refuses
- It goes quiet in courtrooms, tribunals, police interviews, exams and live job interviews. Interviews are practice only.
- It never clones a voice that is not yours, and it never tells you to state something that is not true.
- In a crisis conversation it stops and shows local crisis lines.
Model training
- Hearby does not train models on your conversations.
Questions people ask
Is it legal to use Hearby on calls?
It depends on where you and the other person are. Hearby does not record, which keeps it clear of most recording laws, but some places require everyone's consent to any listening. The simple rule: tell the other person. Hearby gives you the line.
How is my account protected?
Sign-in runs in your browser. Each Mac and iPhone gets its own sign-in token, which you can revoke from your account at any time.
How are payments handled?
Payments are handled by Stripe. Hearby never sees or stores your card number.
Is data encrypted?
Everything between the app and Hearby's service travels over HTTPS. Vendor keys never ship inside the app.
How do I delete my account?
Delete it from your account page or in the app's settings. Your sessions on your device are yours and go with it.
